Happy New Year!

1. Well what a week huh? It́s been pretty tiring, we didnt really have a P DAY
last week where we could go out and do stuff for our selves to be prepared
for the week to come, and rest up. I have a Cold. Eu Estou com Greipe. I’m a
little sick is what that means. So today will be good to rest up and stuff.
I’ll get to go to the store and stock up for the week.
I missed you all during the Holiday season and am grateful that I only
have one more Christmas to miss from the presence of you guys. Here in
Brazil the people don’t really celebrate Chritmas as much. Maybe just here in Mato
Graso Do Sul. Cause all the people that we contact and talk with a little
they all seemed to say that the holiday wasn’t that great. But it was
strange for Elder Munaro too because his family has a big festive Christmas
too.
A Mission has made me very grateful for things that I took for granted
before, like Christmas with the family, Music, Swimming, and Relaxation.
There are many things that I will be very happy to have in my life in a
couple of years. Take this advice from me and enjoy every moment of
happiness in you lives, every good song you hear, every family party, and
every bit of relaxation you get and especially your health.
However there are things here that I could only get to experience in Brazil,
on a mission without Christmas with the family or music swimming and
relaxation. Like yesterday at the Baptism of Sania and Vander and their
daughter Thais (tie-eeis). They are an awesome family and it was an awesome
baptism. It reminded me a lot of the baptismal meetings we used to have in
Saginaw. And You are so right about how in just a couple of years the things
that this family could be doing in the church, the people that they could
help later on. They have a little boy named Wanglyson (van-glay zen) he
will be 7 in January. He can be baptized by his dad in a year and maybe even
go on to serve a mission in 12 years… It is a great thing to think about and
I can’t wait for in a couple of years see how they are doing. So that was my
first baptism. I have a picture here I want you to print off and frame it
and put it somewhere special.
Well the work goes on… and I am doing well, my feet are fine my body needs a
little rest today but other than that I’m fine.
Dad,
That is a good idea to print up all the emails and put them in a binder. So
if you do that then you can delete all my past emails. And keep all my hand
written letters in there too. That would be great.
Well familia, it looks like I’ll need to get back to P DAY. So have a great
week and send some cold down here please.
Tchau!
Sempre com muito Amor,
Seu Filho mais valeu,
Andrew.
It́s raining in Coopaha¡dio. ( coop-uh-ha-jew)

Elder Munaro and I have been teaching constantly, this week alone we had 24
lessons and found 18 new investigators. We even walked out to the limits of
our area to do it. We had to take a path through the jungle, it was like
exploring. But then it opened up to be a neighborhood so it wasn’t anything
like going and teaching people in huts. LOL. We have 3 baptisms lined up for
the 27th Edilson, Olinda, and Gisa. And we are hoping to have a family ready
soon; the only problem is that Vander, the father, is a firefighter and is
always working. But they have come to church a couple of times and have made
friends with the members, so I hope Sania and Vander can be baptized too.
So last week the e-mail was about the sun and how hot it is and how there
was no rain, well this week it rained every single day. Lol, How weird to
have a whole week of blistering hot sun, and then a week of absolute rain.
Elder Munaro likes both he tells me that those are the two things that
promise you to have a more beautiful wife when you get back, rain and hot
sun. LOL. Missionaries are strange. Speak of the devil it just stated raining
again…
So if it is going to be to much just forget about the sun screen I am tan
now. It costs 25 dollars 50 real to buy a small hand held sized tube of sun
block which is like the knock off lower quality stuff. It’s ridiculous. But
I decided I don’t really need it so I might just buck up and pay the 25
bucks for a baby tube.
It’s funny that you are counting your time by semesters of college now. That
means that you are becoming a real college student again. I guess I’ve
started to count my time by transfers, I’m becoming a real missionary.
So now to answer some of your very many questions, We haven’t found out
exactly what is going on with the calling thing, but you will need to call
me at our chapel. And we will find out the number and time this week and
’
I will send it to you on next Monday.
As for what are we eating …
Lots of rice and beans… We have lunch at the homes of members. It’s
like our dinner appointments, except that here the main meal is lunch. I
had this stuff that was raw ground beef with grits and vegetables one time
and it did not taste bad it just was the fact that it was raw that made it
not so appealing to me. I forget the name of it. But that was at the house of
a member who is American and served here in Coopahádio too and met a girl
and he came back and they are getting married now. Interesting huh? But
there is almost everything here in the super markets that they have there so
send me some good recopies. Send some recipes for Christmas deserts. I want
some pie.
I don’t think I will need to get money out of my account very soon because I
have one for the mission at HBSC an international bank so there is not much
need for it. If I try to use my card here it will work but it charges a fee
like 8 bucks every time I use it..
I love you very much and I hope you have a great week.
Andrew
Cooparido- Campo Grande- Matou Graso do Sul- Brazil

1. I’m glad that you sent that email yesterday cause Today (Monday) is my
P-day. I am in the Cooparido ward area of Campo Grande in the state of Matou
Graso Do Sul the northern most part of my mission. I got to the mission home
and sent you that short email last Tuesday, then found out that I was coming
here and wow it was a surprise. This is a part of the mission they only send
a couple every once and a while, so Íll probably be here for a while. And
this is why: I had to wait all day, after the meeting to get our companions,
we waited till 9 at night. Then we went to the bus station. Then we waited
another 2 hours for our bus. Got on the bus and had a 14 hour ride to campo
grande. It was not a very pleasant time…lol.
I got here and had to wait again for a long time for my companion to arrive.
I just dońt like waiting. We had to go through a whole day of training and
stuff where I understood little to nothing. Lol. That is how my first week
has been, if I had to summarize my first week here in one word it would be
LOST. I have been lost since I got here. I don’t understand a lot of things.
I just follow what my companion does. When people talk to me I can usually
understand what they are trying to get across to me, but not all the time.
And I usually cant respond back to them, I know words but I don’t know how
to connect them or use them correctly in a sentence. I some how find a way
to get around everything though. So a second word I could use to summarize
is QUIET.
The area is nice, it is pretty sub tropical. There are palm trees, coconut
trees, mango trees, banana trees, avocado trees, and just tons of cool fruit
trees. That is one of my favorite things about the area is all the awesome
fruits that grow on the side of the road that we can pick and eat. We picked
a couple avocados to make sandwiches out of and some limes from our lime
tree. The mangos aren’t quite ready yet they are all pretty green. I love
the juices that are made here, there is no such thing as juice from
concentrate!
And the work is great people are very receptive to hearing the message. It
does take a little work to get them to really feel that it is true, but that
it natural. No baptisms yet but we have dates for a family Vander , Sania and
their daughter. They have been coming to church and been fellow shipped by
the members there. We are working with 15 new investigators we found this
week just by street contacting. Elder Munaro said that was a new record for
him, 15 new investigators. I do a lot of the street contacting and Elder
Munaro does the lesson teaching, I bear my testimony and smile. I do know a
lot about church stuff in the language so I do alright when I’m talking
about that stuff.
My companion is Elder Munaro. He is from Porto Alegre where a lot of that
flooding was going on that you told me about. ( oh about the flooding, there
was a district that were going to leave the CTM the week before I did but
they couldn’t cause their area was flooded… ) So Elder Munaro is an
excellent missionary and can teach about anything and somehow manages to
make up for my slack. And he understands my garbled Portuguese. He doesn’t
speak English but he is trying to learn from me. Hés cool. We live in a
small green house with two other missionaries. Elders Davies and Lioliel.
They are crazy. All of them have been here for 16 months and have a lot of
inside jokes, and are constantly joking around.
I am always tired and my feet are hurting, we do a lot of walking. We walk
everywhere and we dońt have bikes or anything. It is constantly hot here, I
am always sweating. Very hot. 40 Celsius two days last week. I dońt
know how everything is so green around here cause is o hot and haśt
rained since Íve been here!

All in all im doing fine and Ím sure it will all get better soon.
Love Andrew.

Well Family, ola for this week

Well Family, ola for this week, everything sounds like it´s going just fine
there. Here the time continues to fly by and the portuguese continues to be
drilled into my head, whether I want it to or not. Of course I want it to
though. Today on my way here we were walking on the street and a man was
selling hammocks, and you know that one of my things that I wanted to get
while in Brasilia is a hammock. Well I really wanted it but I wasn´t quite
convinced that it would be a sturdy well constructed one, so I was pretty
skeptical. But I was able to talk him from 30 real to 20 and I then realized
that I was on a budget of only 40 real for the last two weeks... so I ended
up not getting it, but I am sure I´ll find another opportunity to buy a
hammock somewhere else. The point of this is to illustrate that I have
learned enough Portuguese to barter with a street vendor!

We didn't´t go to the Temple today so we have all day to relax, well till 6
pm. We took a lot of pictures I hope I´ll be able to send a couple to you
today. I took a lot more with people in them. Actually one was used by the
Secretary here in her news blog about the CTM it was the one with our whole
district crowding around the mail box. The picture was taken from inside the
mail box looking out that is the creative mind of District 40-A. We´re cool.
lol

Its´s awesome to hear about you guys! I love you all very much! I am wearing
Julyn´s tie right now! I tied it the other day and one of the missionaries
in my district said what does it say on your knot? and I hadn´t seen that
there was a´love Julyn´on my knot lol that was great and made me feel really
special! So everyone in my district knows all about my three little
Winkelman cousins! I have to live behind all of those fences and bars and
stuff so that bad people cant come in and steal stuff from me or others here
or hurt us. That happens a lot around here I guess. And the food is different
here but I am starting to find things that I like! Oh and I not only heard
from an Apostle I shook his hand too! And Vivian it is very important to
make good choices and I am very proud of you for doing just that, as well as
Julyn and Emmy!

Ok I have to go I think I have reached my limits So I´ll send a letter this
week as well! tchau! Love Andrew
WEEK 7 NOW...

1. I think I said this last time but, Ím getting to be an old guy here in the
CTM. Itśs going to be really funny when I go out into the field and realize
how little I know, and how young of a missionary I really am...
The other day during church we had been talking about the changes that take
place as you grow on your missions. One of the second weeker’s said that they
thought everyone looked so much older than them, and they could not believe
that we were all the same age. Elder Stanley and I just looked at
each other and laughed cause we thought the exact same thing when we were
first here! There truly is a change in countenance that people can notice
by just looking at you. Itśs good to know that we look like the old guys
now, means Ím doing what ím supposed to be doing.

Thank you for the updates on the economy and gas prices and exchange rate
and all that jazz.
Oh and Madie has been telling me you are hoarding a bunch of letters to send
all at once... just get em and send um. It́s going to cost just as much and
I get more joy out of a letter everyday than I do 7 at a time. But no matter
what I love the letters. And I have been getting a ton now and it is great!
.
Oh and to dad, The food is just a lot of fruit and rice and beans( the rice
and beans are amazing though, I though it was rice with a side of beans but
no way its rice with beans on top, unlike anything Íve ever had before.)
lots of meat, mostly beef and chicken, it all has a weird taste to it
though. It defiantly not American.

The pictures are of our little Halloween party
we had on our floor. The Brazilians had never really had a Halloween party before,
So they were having a blast with it! Hope you enjoy!

Love you a lot ,
Tcau!
Elder HYTE
Well hello from Brazil.

Hey there! this week went by so fast it was incredible! It feels like just
yesterday I was sitting here typing you a letter... well it is now Tuesday
the 4th of November, and I have until December 2nd here in São Paulo. So I
will be here for 4 more weeks. I wrote about the são Paulo temple in my
letter i sent off today, so I wont́t talk about that too much but it was
really cool to go there. The more senior districts of the CTM go to the São
Paulo temple and the others goto Campinas, on their P-days. So that means I
am now a senior of the CTM... that́s weird.
You asked who came and spoke last week, was Richard G. Scott. He was here
and everyone was making a big deal about it, there were flowers and
renovations happening all week long, but it was a really cool experience. I
think he might of had a conference out side of the CTM as well cause it was
only the elders and sisters in the CTM in this meeting. So Hillary got to
hear him as well that’s great! I am not getting those emails yet. You should
just forward them to me when you get them, just push forward and type my
email address. That would be great. Oh and Sister Gould called for my
address? That’s great get it to her. That is Jessiés mom. Jessie gave me the
pie from Marie Calenders for my farewell remember?
This week my comp Elder Stanley got his second letter !l It had the same
return address as a letter Elder Porter in our district had on his letter.
It was a pitty letter from Elder Porteŕs 9 year old sister. He was very
excited about that, and he wrote her back promptly.
I know the Lord blesses us when we are doing what we are supposed to, mom
you have a lot of things going on at the same time and I know that Heavenly
Father knows that as well, and he is watching out for you. Just keep doing your best.
He´ll do the rest!
Have a great week and Íll write to you again next Tuesday! Tchau!,
Andrew
Andreẃs first mission Email...

Hello Family, it is good to be on a computer again for the first time in a
week! I Love it out here, the Brazilian CTM is awesome. it is Like a prison
too but that’s because it is in a dangerous neighborhood ( which I am roaming
around as we speak...) lol Not to worry you too much... There is barbed wire
and electric fences all around the 20 foot high walls, and bars on the
windows, and at least 20 guards. it́s pretty funny we got security cards,
and safés for our rooms, and keys for like every room that we use. Oh yeah
I was made District Leader this last week so I have a bunch of keys to carry
around.
I made my first purchase in Brazil. Like 20 minutes ago... A pair of black flip
flops to use in the shower. I am going to
buy some hangers at the Things store soon... its like a ghetto dollar store
so they call it a things store... lol , and Ím going to send you a letter in
the mail. it probably wońt get to you for like two or three weeks so yoúll
have to wait... There is a thing here at this cookie / internet shop called
mission ties... I think you should look into it cause it would be a lot
faster and I bet cheaper for us to communicate... so Google mission ties Sao
Paulo Brazil CTM... Mr Cheneýs cookies is the place that does it... it́s
almost like pouch mail... but you guys will pay for it. I am not sure how
much it́ll cost. look into it and then let me know what you think with in
this week. we only get to email on Tuesdays. so check your email on
Tuesdays!!!
I love
you guys very much . and I am learning pleanty here and am always really
really busy. well I have to get off the computer now cause there is a very
long line of elders waiting to get on the computer. Talk to you next week,
Ím looking forward to some mail! like lots!

Bye
Elder Hyte
