Hey guys how’s it going? Brazil is getting really cold. I found a way to
withdraw money from my debit card without a charge. I just have to go to an
international bank. I am going to buy a couple of sweaters today. It was 11
degrees Celsius yesterday and today it is like 10 and this next week and will
stay down in the 4́s and 6́s which are like 40 degrees F.
Its good to hear about Alex and Paul. They are both growing up and making
good strides in life. Paul good luck at graduation and, WAY TO GO BRO! Oh
and some more advice… dońt eat too much graduation day cause there is
soooooo much good food at the all night party, which I hope you are going
to. If you go out to eat go early in the afternoon so yoúll be good and
ready for the after party.
Dad is crazy. I think there were a couple of angels there in the Temple
administering to hold his pants together. A size 44 butt does not fit into a
size 38 pants without the help of angels. But it is good to know that dad
made it to be there. The best part of my first time through the temple was
seeing all of my family who loves me and cares for me. And the Eternal Prospective.
I got every thing in the package and the ring fits thanks! The tie tac is
cool too. We have a dual zone activity at a park hosted by president Leal
today so I inflated the football to play with there. I also made a couple
batches of cookies and they turned out perfect. I translated the recipe for
the relief society in our ward and said that if they promised to give a
pass-along card with some cookies to a friend Íd give them the recipe too.
The sisters in my district loved the cookies too.
It sounds like you do laundry the same way that I do know but you have a lot
better washing machine than I do.
Tell Mark and Jamie Congratulations! That’s crazy they are having another child. If
I get married and have a kid soon it they could be very close in age. Lol.
But that probably wont happen.
My memory card is a song magic gate the exact same kind that the PSP uses. I
found a 4gb at Best buy for 10 bucks too before I left. Or Circuit city…
Well love you all. Take lots of pictures to send this week at the
graduation and activities and stuff. Íll see you later.
Tcahu Beijo!
Fast and pray for new people for us to teach and that those new people will be
baptized.
Love you

Cookies.
Hey there family hoẃs it going? First off I need Alex́s address. I have
already written him a letter, I need to send it to him now. So I haveńt
gotten the package yet but I think it is probably in the mission office
right now so Íll either go there today or I will have someone pass by
there. Ím pretty anxious to receive it. I sent some pictures including the
rain one that got lost last week.
The girls are making a blanket for their friend Joe? Joe is whós boyfriend?
Its starting to get a little cold here like 50 degrees and my companion is from
near the equator and he is freezing to death. The other day was the first
time in his life that he could see his breath because it was so cold. I
laughed as he faked the cigarette tricks and dragon breath. All of the things that you would do when you were a little kid in the cold.
The family night with John and Candy in Dads letter made me smile and laugh.
You guys are crazy and I would́t have it any other way. I cant wait to be
back and spend time with you all.
Well I love you all and I hope this week brings many great memories, and of
course happiness. If you have any good ideas for activities we can do with
the youth in the chapel one Saturday night, to get them to bring friends to
church. Any Ideas would be appreciated we are trying to put something
together. Wére Doing something Different

P.S.
Don’t forget the address. Oh and if you have time could you send me a good
oatmeal chocolate chip cookie recipe. I have been getting a lot of requests for cookies.

WOH HOOO!!!! I knew he was comming to Brazil!!!!!.
WOH HOOO!!!! I knew he was coaming to Brazil!!!!! That is why I was asking
so much when he was expecting his call!. Ha ha that’s awesome now we can speak
Portugese together!
Sal Paulo East is right on the coast and will have a part of the really busy city area. That could be good and bad for him. The good part is there are a lot of people in Sal Paulo the bad part is there is a lot of busy people in Sal Paulo. I was talking to some members the other day at lunch and they said that they served in the Sal Paulo Mission and they would have to stay out teaching lessons till 11 and 12 at night cause the people are only home at those times. Brazil is defiantly the coolest mission country. That is so COOL! Send him a Parabens!(congratulations). It is pronounced, (Pah dah bay nz).
Ok Thanks for sending package for Elder Y. Ím excited for this package I hope that picture
of Christ holds off those nasty thieves. Oh and I got that Gatorade really fast. I got it 3 weeks ago, I think it only took a week to get here. Thanks. OK so listen good here is my information for the call on Sunday.
You will call at 2pm your time (5 mine) and you will call to this number: 011+55+3035+5158
There is a program on the internet called Skype. It is totally free. It’s a well known program that lots of people use. There are a lot of missionaries that use this too cause it is cheap. You call over the internet. On the computer. So look into this I think it would be really good. It́s only like 5 cents a minute this way.
Ok well I hope you are all happy and Íll talk to you on Sunday.

This was a fast week
Hey there ,
This week was a fast week. There were those ups and those downs… We had a
lot of lessons and met a lot of new people but then on the other hand the
old investigators were muito mole! (very lazy). We met some cool people on
the road while we were doing our contacts and we met some people who swore
and yelled at us and called us the church of the devil. So you see there are
two sides to our story. Really there are two sides to everything like Brazil
is really beautiful. It has lots of trees and flowers when you look up. The
other side is when you look down there is trash and broken un-swept sidewalks.
Unfortunately the bad things usually happen more often than the good.
It is however a lot happier if you look for the good side in everything.
I wrote a long letter and sent it Tuesday or Wednesday for moḿs Birthday.
I told about the area and the hills and stuff. Everyone here says that the
cold is coming and that it is going to be worse than the cold in Utah but then again, none of them have been to Utah. They say it is bad because of the wind. I don’t even think anybody here owns a coat though... Wéll see. They say it should get cold in about a month.
So, about some of the pictures I sent:
The Marriage Bus is a tour bus that goes from city to city and people can
get married inside for free. This Bus helped us a lot in Coopahadio but
they dońt have free marriage here in Parana so nobody is married legally;
they are just living together… and nobody can get baptized because of this.
You were asking about the Police: Well the other night there was a drug raid right in front of our
house. The police here are brutal, they just smacked these guys around like
rag dolls. The guys were standing with their hands on their heads and the
police would punch them in their face and sides. It was pretty bad .
Ok well good bye for this week.. Talk to you in another couple of weeks!

My butt hurts from all the hills that we have to climb here.
Hey,
So it́s P Day here and we are in the mall. My first P Day in Cambe. Well I
wrote a letter about the area so I wont say much except for that my butt
hurts from all the hills that we have to climb here. Lol. I think I’m doomed to
work hard on my mission. That Gatorade should come in handy here cause my
muscles are getting sore. Well we had a good week number wise but the people
here are a lot more hard-hearted. Even if they feel something they ignore it
and say I was born Catholic and my grandma asked me to stay catholic when
she was on her deathbed so I will stay catholic till I die even if I am
wrong. Religion is not a very big deal to many people here. Almost
every person that we teach says There is just one God and that every
religion is good as long as you are worshiping God. Then we explain authority
and they pull out the I was born catholic and I will die Catholic card, and
then we say I know this is true and leave with a prayer. Oh boy it will be a little more difficult here I think.
Well I hope yoúre all doing well. I will get going now. Dad thanks for the email. I looked at your title "Resurrected" and I was
thinking to myself "whats resurrected? My phone? why did he write that?" then
I realized that you had written it in Portuguese. Par¡bens. Thanks for
sending the Gatorade. I pray for you.
Girls I miss you.
Paul I miss you too and hope you are making the best of your senior year!
Well Everyone

Now in Londrina for three hours
Well hello family and friends,
This week was pretty eventful. We had lots to do to get ready for the
transfers and baptisms and conference. We also had a meeting we put together and on
top of all that our normal teaching and finding work.
So the Conference was good. I think it will be even better when I get the
ensign so I know what they were saying... lol. I am not very good at
understanding talks or movies for some reason, probably cause I cant ask
talks or films to repeat themselves for me. So yeah, I didn’t get to much
out of conference, just a little trunkyness from all the pictures of temple
square and surrounding places. There was a broadcast in English for American
missionaries in another chapel in the stake, but it was a little far away and would have been really worth I but we didn’t make it over there. So I cańt wait for the Ensign conference talks.
This was probably the second coolest baptism that I have had now. A family
of Four, Miguel, Alda, Valdinir, and Valdir. They all were baptized after
conference on Saturday. There were a lot of people there to watch because of the
conference. They are so cool and ready to be a great forever family. Valdir and Valdinir
are 11 and 12 and one day we were teaching one of their
friends and they were there and we asked if they would like to have us over
to their house and share a message with their family and they were very
excited but didńt know how their mom would like it. Well about two weeks
later, we were walking in the road to another appointment and saw them and
they said hey why haven’t you passed by our house yet? Well needless to say were went there that same night and taught them. The next time we were there they accepted to be baptized. Now their daughter and her husband Regina and Anderson, who live away from their house will be baptized next week. Cool huh? Now the only problem is that I’m 14 hours away from them and wont get to see the end of this story well at least not till I get home and can call them or something.
Which brings us to the next big thing that happened this week. Transfers!
yeah. Well it was sad to say good bye to all those people that I have become
so accustomed to. I am however glad to have a new companion. I am now in
Londrina.. I am with Elder YURY hés cool and from Fortaleza northern east part of Brazil.
He likes some of the same music as me including Rocket Summer a band that
not even very many Americans have heard of. He went crazy when I told him
that I went to a concert of theirs. yeah I think this should be a good time
here. Our house is huge and right in the middle of the city, with a view. I
must have done something right to have deserved this. lol. Our room has a
view of a museum across the street, but that’s all I know about the area
right now cause I have only been here for 3 hours. The bus ride was also pretty
long.
Well I have to go I hope you are all doing great and I love you all. I
wanna let you all know that I am doing great and I am happy. I am especially
happy right now!

This Thursday I had food poisoning
Hey there,
so this Thursday I had food poisoning and everything was harshly expelled.
from my stomach. I spent Wednesday night being sick so I didn’t have much rest at all. That made for a really crappy recovery on Thursday. Some good member friends helped me out and brought me some medication and her home remedies for me to try to get better. I was very grateful for them and by that afternoon we were able to finish up the night working. So just to give you a little more of a scare, last Monday it was really dark and rainy and we were walking down the street and this car stopped in front of us on a street corner. A guy got out of the car and started walking towards us. I didn’t think anything of it, nor did I feel threatened. I talked to him about the gospel and gave him a pass along card. He was very grateful and smiled and left. Well, when he left Elder Silva was freaking out. He said, did you not see the gun? And his hand on it. Well that’s work in Tiradentes for you. Tiradentes is the neighborhood that we live in here in Campo Grande. It’s like the east side of Saginaw here.
Oh, and conference will be coming up. That should be great. There is a separate transmission in English for the missionaries here.
We had one more baptism this week, His name is Anderson he is 11 and really is cool . We are teaching his family and he was ready so he was baptized. We are currently working with his mother, Jussimara, to get married to the guy she’s been living with for 9 years. I hope everything goes well. We are working with another family this week that the parent’s need to get married also, in order to get baptized. Lucky for us, here in Campo Grande there are free marriages held every so often and just so happens that there is one on Tuesday. So now all that needs to happen is they need to agree to get married and the family of four will be baptized on Saturday after conference.
There is a girl here, and she is getting married to an past missionary in the area. They got married here this week and are headed to the Idaho Falls temple to get sealed. I talked to her about how Jamie lives close to that temple.
Well I have to finish now so, see you all later and stay happy everyone.

First off today I woul'd like to say hello to everyone that reads this email
First off today I would like to say hello to everyone that reads this email.
This week was pretty good. . However it didn’t look like it would be at first.
One of my past companion room mates who is an American, said to me
one time when we were on a split, that the time that you don’t really know
the language and you don’t really know what is going on, is a really nice
time on the mission. I thoroughly disagreed at the time but he insisted that
later when you learn the language and know what is going on you will be
worried about other things like the people that you are teaching and how you
will fulfill your goals and things like that.
Now as I’m learning the language better and I understand the worries and
problems that our investigators have it is becoming more and more stressful
when people reject the love you are trying to share with them.
Second chapter.... to the Arlindo and Neri story...
We called the other day to confirm that they would need a ride to church on
Sunday. Neri picked up and said that they would́t be going anymore. She
said that Arlindo didn’t want to go anymore either, but she has told us, in that
way before, and Arlindo was very interested and excited about the church.
Neri is afraid of what her parents would think of her changing churches
again. So we will stop by there this week and Elder Munaro said that he
wants to impress to them a little in the sense of `you already know that this is
true and if you don’t continue in the right way you will not receive the blessings of the
Celestial kingdom.`
So wait for another chapter on that story. .. but maybe this is the end.
Yeah I guess this is a problem in this world. Being on a mission it is hard
to see so many people reject what you know would change their life for the
better, and maybe prevent a lot of problems that they would have otherwise
come across. Many people come so close to changing their lives but they lose
faith. So many times we come across pass along cards on the ground, or
ripped up in the gutter ( like yesterday):) or people just flat out reject
us and say that they already know the truth, or already have a religion, or
just don’t have time. These things are very sad but I have already decided
that my entire two years here in Brazil away from my life, already have been
worth it just from the baptism of Sonia Vander and Thais and later,
Wangleyson. What a great family.
So the story of my service project a couple of weeks ago goes a little like this:
Elder Munaro and I went to a member’s house to help her clean her pool. When
We got there was about a foot of water in the pool that looked like
sewer water. Their pump had broken and they needed to get all the water out
in order to fix it. So we used buckets to bail out the pool. It took 2 hours
and we were dead afterwards and still had a whole week to work until P Day
again. Its been two weeks and I don’t think I’ve recovered fully.
Dad, Happy Birthday this week I hope you have a good one, and I hope you get
my letter I sent to you for your birthday.
I love you all and hope you enjoy the pictures I Sent one of the jungle next
to my house. And one of me messing around with the suspenders you guys sent…
elder Munaro found this hilarious.
See ya

my letter I sent to you for your birthday.
I love you all and hope you enjoy the pictures I Sent one of the jungle next
to my house. And one of me messing around with the suspenders you guys sent…
elder Munaro found this hilarious.

This week was good, We taught a lot this week
I didn’t know how I should start this e-mail. First I typed: This week was
good, then I thought that sounded lame. So I then typed: We taught a lot
this week. And that just wasńt the complete truth. So this is the truth:
The week was a regular missionary week, we taught on the minimal side number
wise, but we did mark baptismal dates for 5 people. Number wise it looks
like a below average week but people wise I think we did well.
Arlindo and Neri ( are-lean-doo) (nhey-dee) Are our best right now and I
think They will be baptized this or next week. They go to church and are
making friends with the members they are both around 50 years old and know a
lot of the people in the ward cause they have lived in Campo Grande their
whole lives. Arlindo loves Soccer he was a coach for 30 years, and he
referees for our wards soccer games now and loves it. They have an
interesting story on how we contacted them. We almost never door knock, just
talk to people on the streets. This day we decided to knock at their house.
Neri was there but Arlindo was at work. She let us in and listened to the
first lesson and we gave her a book of Mormon and invited her to read and share
it with her family. We went back one more time and she asked us not to come
back because her husband was a grumpy old man and not very accepting to
religion. So we respected that and she was cut from our list of
investigators. Well two weeks later I was contacting on the road, talking to
everyone. We meet Arlindo, he gave us his address and said he would like to
hear our message. The address was familiar to us and later found out that he
was the husband of Neri, and he was a nice man accepting of the gospel. It
just goes to show that when the lord is ready to receive someone he works
through his servants. And even though I am not perfect at speaking
Portuguese, I know enough to invite people to listen.
We also have a family of 3 the mother Luxiana, was baptized when she was 16
and she’s 40 now. Sergio the father, wants to be baptized. And Luana is 16
and has a boyfriend who tries to talk her out of being baptized. They are a
great family and every time we go over to their house Luxiana has food,
pizza, hot dogs, cake and other stuff for us. Now that is how missionary
work should be! Luxiana remembered that I said I had never seen a passion
fruit so she picked one up at the store for me. She is very nice and reminds
me a lot of Sister Chamberlain.
Paul look up passion fruit and tell me what its good for. They said it has a
lot of medicinal value. And that it is good for sleeping. Here passion
fruit is called Maracuja.
The language is coming along, I think Íll be like you dad and still praying
to be better at the language even at the end of my mission. A lot of times
people here ask me how my Portuguese is doing an I start ranting about how
hard it is how bad I am and Íll go on for 5 minutes about my problems with
Portuguese then I realize that I had been ranting IN PORTUGUESE for 5 whole
minutes. So who knows. I can understand almost everything as long as it is
said clearly and loudly and directly to me. And if I cant understand, it is just
one word that I don't know and I can ask them to explain that word better.
So Ím communicating, maybe not beautifully yet, but I can get the point
across. With Elder Munaro I can talk about anything though. We talk a lot in
Portuguese. Hés cool. He has a girlfriend at home an they are planning on
getting married in December 09. Íll tell you more about him next week.
I got my Christmas packages this week. I have be scarfing down those
starbursts and skittles! Thank you!. Munaro loves starburst also. I got the
package Monday, and that day felt so much more like Christmas than the 25th
did. It was amazing. Thank you! I got a package from Justin and Lindsay too.
They are so thoughtful. They got me a bunch of Christmas candy and a little
stocking to hang. Lol. I really enjoyed the letters.
I got a bunch of Christmas cards from ward members too which were great. Boy
people love me, it feels great to know that.
Dad your joke about Blonds and Brazilians in your Christmas letter is
priceless. I cant wait to tell it to another American. Unfortunately the
joke doesn't translate very well I already tried with Munaro. Lol
Dope! I ran out of time again, next week Íll add pictures I promise. Íll
also tell you all about a nasty service project we had lol.
Well love you all lots. Thank you for your love and Íll see ya in a little
while!
Love your Missionary,

Brazil is Rainy this week...
Jamie sent an e mail to me the other day and asked about having to
have passed seminary to serve in brazil. It is very true about the seminary
thing. You have to have passed seminary and have been active in all your
quorums in church. I had to have many papers signed by the bishop and stake
president, and then gotten notarized to become official government documents
stating that I am an authorized minister of the church of Jesus Christ of
latter day saints. I have a little ministerial certificate that I have in my
pocket, that I have to carry around at all times. Interesting huh?
Well I hope your Holidays were awesome. Sounds like the kids got a bunch of
cool presents. I think I’ll be receiving my Christmas presents later this
week. I don’t get packages or mail till the 6 week transfers because I
am so far away from mission HQ.
To mom Ím doing fine now health wise. And it has even been a little cooler
for the last couple of days. Because we had a huge rain storm on new years
eve. We made Churrasca again on new years eve and we were very lucky to have
a little over hang from the roof of our house so that the meat in the
churrascaria the barbeque didn’t get wet. It was authentic Brazilian like
they do it at that restraint in Salt Lake I forget the name. We had 5 pounds
of meat between the 4 of us. And I made a cake. I realized I did́t have the
stuff for a frosting and they dońt sell frosting in a cup at stores here,
so I used my head and figured out how to make a pineapple upside-down cake.
It was delicious and perfect. We had a bottle of sparkling cider that we
popped at midnight too. Oh yeah and we bought Monopoly to play until
midnight. And New years day was P Day. So we got to nap during the day. So
New Years was a lot better than Christmas. We had P Day on New Years because
everyone, EVERYONE gets drunk on New Years eve and it was just not worth
going out. Even when we went out after 6 pm they were all still drunk.
People drink here like they found out what beer was yesterday. There is a
little bar on every street some times there are two right across from
each other. I wonder how peoplés livers are doing here?
That’s great that you got a big scholarship. I guess all that hard work is
paying off huh? Good Job. I know that yoúll be blessed during these two
years. And yoúll have to keep me up to date on your schooling like what
classes, which ones are hard and which are interesting.
Oh and keep me up to date on what Paul is doing after high school he needs
to be thinking about that right now. Have him write me an e-mail about that
stuff this week. Oh and Paul find out how to tell when an Avocado is ripe to
pick off the tree. Íve picked couples that just are not ripe. Its not the
same as at the store, and it looks like the seeds are not solid yet. But the
fruit is as big as two fists. I wanna make some freaking guacamole! I
hear that Abacaci ( Avocado) juice is pretty good too.
I sent a letter last week with my address on the back so you can write to
that address, but send all packages to the HQ because there is a risk of theft. Transfers
are this week so If I somehow am transferred, then you wont sent me anything
to Campo Grande. Ta BoM? Ok .
Dad that was a very good Idea to just check my email account cause there
have been other times when stuff is rejected like that so If that happens
again just be sure to check my sent items box.
Ok well I hope You all have a great week and I Hope School goes well for you
and Ím glad to hear That Alex is having fun at College, And I have some
advice for him. Have all the fun you can have this year. You want to
remember having fun while you are on your mission. And I have heard from
many sources that it is almost impossible to get anything higher than a C in
calculus at BYU. Well Familia, I love you and Hope all goes well this week.
I love you very much and Íll see you in 21 months! lol
